Willington Power Station

These five cooling towers are the last remains of the Willington power station in Derbyshire, close to the River Trent. The power station ran two coal fired generators up until the 1990’s when the majority of the site was demolished.

The five huge towers are still the dominating feature of the area surrounding Willington and as much of an eyesore as they may be to some, they present a stark relic of days gone by. A pair of peregrine falcons gave the towers new life, causing a bit of local publicity at the time but now the powers that be are thinking of just how they are going to bring these great structures to the floor to make way for more housing.
